Instrumentation Interview Questions- Personal Experience

This article blog presents commonly asked interview questions for Instrumentation and control personnel in the oil and gas industry or petrochemical industry across the globe. I have presented the questions that I have gone through during my interviews throughout my industrial career.

What is SCFD Vs CFD in flow measurement?

Both are volumetric flow rates; CFD is cubic feed per day however SCFD is standard cubic feet per day when the measurement is referenced at standard temperature at pressure which is 60 Deg F and 14.73 Psia.

Principle of Coriolis Mass Flow meter working?

Coriolis flow meters determine the mass and density of the flowing fluid. Mass is determined from the phase shift in the vibrating tubings sensed by two sensors; while density is measured through the frequency of vibrating tubings. Normally the tubings oscillate at a certain natural frequency and in the case of fluid flow the frequency gets reduced; this reduction in frequency is then correlated with the density of the flowing fluid. What is CV in the control Valve?

CV is the flow coefficient that determines the flow capacity through a control valve. It is defined as

"the number of US Gallons of water flowing through a fully open valve having differential pressure of 1PSI at 60 deg F"
